somatic overflow
art direction + set design
A sculptural floral piece exploring how repressed emotions manifest physically. When we silence our needs to avoid discomfort, that emotional weight turns inward—until the body breaks its silence. “Somatic Overflow” captures that moment: when unspoken words transform into symptoms, and internal pressure spills out in raw, grotesque forms.
The process began with a concepconceptual collage, where textures symbolized emotional excess and sensory overload. This evolved into a non-beauty floral arrangement using wire, moss, and decaying blooms—materials that evoke tension, vulnerability, and rupture. Flowers push through porous structures, suffocated or bursting free, mirroring how emotion invades the body when left unexpressed.
